This Cookie Policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on nhc.co.za, bethlehem.nhc.co.za and harrismith.nhc.co.za (the “Websites”), which are run for New Horizon College Bethlehem and New Horizon College Harrismith (“New Horizon College”, “NHC”, “we”, “us”). Please read it with our Privacy and POPIA Notice.

1. What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that a website saves on your device. They help a website work and remember your choices, and can also be used to understand how a website is used or to measure advertising. Similar technologies include tags, pixels, scripts and local storage. In this policy, “cookies” covers all of them.

2. Our cookie consent tool

The Websites use CookieYes, a cookie consent tool, to show a cookie banner and record your choices. The banner groups cookies into the following categories: necessary, functional, analytics, performance and advertisement, and offers options to accept, reject or customise. Whether the technical configuration blocks non-necessary cookies and scripts until you make a choice has not yet been technically verified and is under review.

Use the banner’s customisation controls to choose your preferences. If you cannot reopen your preferences, contact the relevant campus office. Browser controls also allow deletion or blocking of cookies (see section 5).

Some cookie data, such as your IP address or a device identifier, can be personal information under POPIA. We handle it as described in our Privacy and POPIA Notice.

3. Cookies on the Websites

The detailed list of cookies set on the Websites (names, providers, purposes and durations) has not yet been confirmed by a cookie scan. Once a scan is completed, this section will be updated with that list. In general terms:

• Necessary cookies include the cookie that records your cookie choices, and cookies needed for security and for the Websites and forms to work.
• Functional cookies may be set by embedded features such as maps or videos from other providers.
• Analytics, performance and advertisement cookies would only be used if such tools are in use on the Websites, and the banner is intended to let you choose whether to allow them (technical verification pending).

4. Third-party cookies

Some features on the Websites, such as embedded maps, are provided by third parties, for example Google. These providers may set their own cookies and process the data under their own privacy policies, which may involve servers outside South Africa. Blocking necessary cookies may stop parts of the Websites, such as our forms, from working.

6. Changes

This policy should be updated when the cookies used on the Websites change, showing the date it was last updated.
